Wine Salt Exists So You Can Sprinkle It On Everything

Apr 26, 2017

(Forbes) - The two greatest food groups: Wine and anything salty.

And now the two have meshed in extraordinary purple crystals to form a singular super food you can sprinkle on everything from blocks of cheese to braised beef to pasta to berries.

Jacobsen Salt Co. (harvested from Oregon's Netart's Bay) paired up with the Willamette Valley's Grochau Cellars to infuse salt with Pinot Noir, creating a single Oregon-centric super seasoning.

Ben Jacobsen, founder of his namesake sea salt company, developed the salt with his team circa 2014, using a propriety process that distributes wine over the salt, dries it, and adds "just the right amount of color, aroma and flavor," Jacobsen explained.
