Americans Prefer Semi-Sweet Wine, Says Latest Survey
Dec 12, 2016
(Forbes) - If you are like me, you spend a few minutes each day either answering or trashing the latest Survey Monkey email. It seems there’s a survey to track everything we do, including our wine preferences, which Dr. Liz Thach and Dr. Kathryn Chang at Sonoma State University (SSU) have apparently been surveying since 2014.
Completed this past spring by Survey Sampling International (SSI), and released recently, nearly 1100 wine drinkers across the 50 United States provided data detailing their wine consumption. Split 58 percent women to 42 percent men, the age groups in the 2016 survey were: 21-39 (29 percent), 40-50 (22 percent), 51-69 (40 percent), 70 and above (9 percent).
More than half the participants claimed intermediate wine knowledge. About 16 percent boasted either advanced knowledge or wine connoisseurship and expertise. The rest called themselves novices.
