Oregon has record wine grape harvest in 2015

Sep 11, 2016

(Heraldnet) - Oregon set a record for tons of wine grapes harvested in 2015 as more acres were planted and yields increased.

The Capital Press reported that the latest Oregon Vineyard Winery Census Report showed a record harvest of nearly 85,000 tons. Yield jumped 8 percent statewide in 2015 over the previous year.

The 2015 production value was $171 million, up from $168 million in 2014.

Oregon pinot noir is still king. It made up 62 percent of planted acreage and 67 percent of vineyard production in 2015.

The state’s wine production is still small compared to California, which produces 90 percent of U.S. wine. Oregon trails behind California, Washington and New York.
