A Year in Port Gives Trilogy the Perfect Digestif

Aug 28, 2016

(Wine-Searcher) - The final installment of the "A Year In" series dives into the fortified world of Port.

The final installment of the documentary trilogy that began with A Year in Burgundy (2013) and A Year in Champagne (2015) is set to conclude with A Year in Port. Like the previous two, the film is centered around the narration of David Kennard, who also happens to be the director. All three films loosely follow the trajectory of his own exposure to wine, and his experience ultimately determines the films' perspectives.

A Year in Port follows several notable Port houses – Symington Family Estates, Taylor Fladgate, Ramos Pinto and Niepoort – through a year of production. The film is particularly focused on the culture of Port and the ancient institutions wrapped up in a blend of British and Portuguese traditions – weekly lunches for English Port families, games of cricket, and an annual race of the traditional Rabelo boats on the Douro between the major houses. Port delves further into the traditions surrounding wine than the previous two films, but when seen as the third in a trilogy, it plays like a natural progression in the story.
