CHEERS! YOU CAN NOW PURCHASE WINE AT GROCERY STORES IN PA.

(WPVI) - For the first time the people of Pennsylvania can now purchase wine at dozens of grocery stores.

This comes after the state's recent decision to allow businesses to expand their liquor licenses.

Brandy Bench's family decided to throw some food on the grill on a hot Saturday.

"Oh, we're doing steaks and shrimp. Big dinner!" said Bench of Levittown.

And for the first time, the mother of three can pick up a bottle of wine to pair with it at the grocery store.

"It's actually a lot more convenient than having to go from here to the wine store and then home, especially with the kids," said Bench.

The ShopRite in Fairless Hills is one of 84 places in Pennsylvania that now have expanded restaurant licenses, allowing it to sell up to four standard bottles of wine per person.

While there's a limited selection now, store officials say being family-owned allowed them to start sales quickly, and plan to expand their offerings in the coming months.

"I was just here the other day and this is like a shock. This is the first day they did this I guess. It's pretty cool. Convenience," said Tony Goldsby of Bensalem.

But not all of the stores we visited are selling wine just yet.

The manager at a Giant in Flourtown says they have to find space and shelving, and go through corporate offices to carry the new inventory so it'll likely be 60-90 days before you can buy a bottle there.

But customers say they'll be ready when it's in stock.

"You're always so busy and you always have things to do so to make something easy and pick up everything in one stop that would be great," said Trayce Booker of Wilmington, Delaware.
