Cheaper Coravin Model One launched ‘for millennials’

Aug 8, 2016

(Decanter) - A lightweight version of the Coravin gadget that allows people to pour a glass of wine without popping the cork has been launched to cater for millennials, the firm has said.

The new Coravin Model One costs £199, making it the cheapest version of the Coravin wine opening gadget on the market.

The Model Two is priced at £279 and the original Coravin 1000 system costs £249.

Coravin said that Model One is targeted at millennial wine drinkers – those aged in their 20s and 30s.

As well as having a lighter body than other versions of Coravin, the firm described the Model One as having ‘young and friendly design features’.

Coravin believes millennials will benefit from its system based on research that this age group enjoys variety.

Research by Haygarth found that 35% of millennials had chosen their most recent drink just to try something new, Coravin said.

More than half of respondents said that they have three or four different types of drink per week.

‘Coravin can give them the freedom to drink what they want, when they want, without compromise and without waste,’ said Maarten Dekker, general manager of Coravin Europe.

Several restaurants and wine bars use Coravin as a way of offering older or rarer wines by the glass.

The gadget uses a thin needle and inert argon gas to extract wine from a bottle
