Wine making goes green

Aug 1, 2016

(Arklatexhomepage) - An Oregon winery is making a wine without using a electricity, industrial machinery, or fuel.

The wine is called Project 1899 and Illahe Vineyards began making it in 2011.

All the grapes that go into the pinot are picked by hand and hauled up to the winery by the winery's two horses.

The grapes are de-stemmed by hand, hand-pressed and then pumped by bicycle into barrels and tanks.

The wine is then hand bottled and hand corked and then brought by the horses down to the Willamette River, where it is put on canoes and both paddled and biked to a distributor in Portland.
