Books and booze. New Barnes and Noble stores to offer beer, wine

(AL) - William Faulkner said "my own experience has been that the tools I need for my trade are paper, tobacco, food, and a little whiskey."

Of course Faulkner's trade was writing.

But what about readers? Especially readers of books? Surely they need paper and food and some use tobacco.

And whiskey?                                           

One of the nation's largest bookstores is about to see if the sale of booze is something that also goes with the books and food.

Barnes and Noble announced late last week that it plans to open four new cBoncept stores this fiscal year that will have an expanded food menu -- and also serve beer and wine.

The book store is hoping the move to booze will lure customers away from Amazon and back into stores in greater numbers.

The new stores will open in New York and the metro areas of Washington, D.C., Minneapolis and Los Angeles.
