Registration is open for WAVE - Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology - a research-focused seminar on July 14
Apr 12, 2012
Registration is open for WAVE - Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology - a research-focused seminar onJuly 14 in Richland, Washington.
The inaugural event, sponsored by the Washington State Wine Commission, will be held in the Washington State University Ste. Michelle Wine Estates Wine Science Center. The research and educational facility, which the Washington State wine industry pledged $7.4 million to help build, opened its doors last fall with state-of-the-art laboratory and wine research technology.
Viticulture research topics presented will include advances in Integrated Pest Management (IPM), managing viruses in Washington vineyards, powdery mildew accomplishments, and irrigation. Enology research topics are wine spoilage and Brettanomyces, tannin management, and the power of native yeasts. Pesticide certification credits have been requested from the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
The goal of WAVE is to raise awareness about the value of research amongst grape growers and wineries. Findings from a recent survey administered by the Wine Commission reinforced the need to share the research message with the wine industry. Additionally, seminars were identified as one of the ways that wine grape growers and winemakers prefer to receive research information.
WAVE will start at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. with a wine social hour and tour of the Wine Science Center.
Pre-registration and payment of $15 is required. Because seating is limited, registration is on a first-come basis. Agenda and registration details are found at: WAVE.
