The Prosecco Crisis Has Been Averted (Here’s To Guzzling Fizzy Wine For Years To Come)
May 6, 2016
(YahooStyle) - Prosecco fanciers are safe for another year. There’s absolutely no chance the UK will run dry in 2016.*
You might remember the great prosecco drought of ‘15? This time last year the world was facing a global shortfall of delicious Italian fizz. Prosecco producers predicted gloomy forecasts after a poor harvest and the middle classes were s**tting their pants.
Didn’t notice any empty shelves at my local Sainsbury’s though.
The rain-affected areas of 2014 have seen an estimated 50 per cent increase in production. A bumper harvest of grapes means there is more than enough fizz to go round.
According to Luca Giavi, director general of industry body Prosecco DOC, there are so many bottles destined for the UK there’s ‘no possibility’ of drinking it all.
We can try though.
