Shoe company sues ex-NFL player Vince Ferragamo over wine brand

(NYDailyNews) - Fashion giant Salvatore Ferragamo is telling retired football player Vince Ferragamo to put a cork in it.

The tony brand known for its shoes and accessories alleges in a trademark-infringement lawsuit that onetime Los Angeles Rams quarterback Ferragamo, who launched Tenuta Di Ferragamo wine after his NFL career, should not be allowed to sell vino using the Ferragamo name.

Ferragamo’s wine is “likely to cause consumer confusion” and “dilute the Plaintiff’s trademarks, which include two federally registered trademarks for wine,” the suit, filed Wednesday in Manhattan Federal Court, alleges.

The vintner’s website, FerragamoWinery.com, goes so far as to constitute “cybersquatting” because of the allegedly illegal similarity, the civil complaint said.
