LONDON GETS ITS FIRST “NAKED” RESTAURANT
Apr 20, 2016
(TDB) - From the city that brought you The Naked Chef comes the world’s first “naked” restaurant, a central London pop-up due to open in June.
Billed as “London’s first naked food experience”, the three-month pop-up, called The Bunyadi, will encourage diners to disrobe at the door and leave their clothes in lockers.
The concept is the brainchild of Lollipop, the company behind ABQ, a pop-up cocktail lab in an RV trailer inspired by hit TV show Breaking Bad.
The Bunyadi aims to take diners back to basics, stripping back the buzzy trappings of modern life. The canopied space will be filled with candles, bamboo and wicker.
Working with natural and home-grown ingredients, the restaurant will be free from phones, electric lights and, ideally, clothing, though dining naked isn’t obligatory.
Food will be cooked a wood fire and served on handmade clay crockery, while the cutlery will be edible. Tasting menus offer vegan and non-vegan options.
“People should get the chance to enjoy a night out without any impurities: no chemicals, no artificial colours, no electricity, no gas, no phone and even no clothes if they wish. The idea is to experience true liberation,” said Lollipop founder Seb Lyall.
According to Lyall, the waiting list for the 42-seater space is already 3,700 people long.
