BREWER UNVEILS ‘WORLD’S FIRST’ BEER MARMALADE

Mar 30, 2016

(TDB) - Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn has launched what it claims to be the “world’s first” beer marmalade to mark the launch of The Beer Kitchen in Dundee.

Called Marm & Ale, the fruit conserve combines Innis & Gunn oak-aged IPA with a Dundee marmalade preserve. It has also created a marmalade IPA using Innis & Gunn’s trademarked beer percolator, that allows it to infuse beers with a wide range of flavours. Both creations will be available at The Beer Kitchen, where the brew will be free to try for a limited time.

“Launching in this great city has provided us with an opportunity to do what we do best: push the boundaries of what’s possible with beer through innovation and experimentation”, said Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn founder and master brewer. “That’s why we’ve been hard at work brewing a marmalade IPA and even creating spreadable beer for adventurous foodies. We’re proud to be setting up shop in such an innovative and vibrant city, we can’t wait to share our passion for great beer with Dundonians.”

Designed In a “Scandi-Scottish” style, The Beer Kitchen will serve a range of craft beer along with a specially curated menu featuring “chopped and charred” and “low and slow” style dishes as well as pub classics, with a special focus on beer pairings.

“With a focus on pairing food and beer, we are educating diners about the nuances and complexities in beer that they otherwise might be unaware of”, added Sharp. “Our staff will let them know what type of beer best accompanies a meaty stew for example or what they should sip on to draw out new flavours in sweet desserts.”

Two five hectolitre tanks will serve serve unpasteurised lager fresh from the brewery, as well as an open cellar with limited edition oak aged cask beers. Dundonians will also be able to take home Innis & Gunn beers in two-litre growlers.
