(WISHTV) — A well-known name in racing is also a name in the wine business. Laura Steele sat down with AJ Foyt the fourth grandson of the legendary driver, AJ Foyt to tell us about the Foyt Wine Vault on Main Street in Speedway.

The Foyt Wine Vault is a combination of bar, a museum of all things AJ Foyt and wine tasting spot.

“We started our wine business in 2008 with my cousin Larry Foyt and we were looking to take our business to another level. My grandfather purchased this building,” said Foyt.

The wines are numbered, each has a special connection to AJ Foyt’s race career like the number 39 Wine.

“It was AJ’s first car when he was four, kind of a little tribute to him cause without him it wouldn’t be possible,” said Foyt.

Another number that was special is 77.

“77 was a special year for him being the first four time Indy 500 winner so it kind of tells a story on the back of the bottle and it’s one of our reserved wines,” said Foyt.

The Foyt name is not the only one you will see on the wine bottles they serve the “competitions” wine as well.

“You’ve got some Andretti wines here. I don’t even know if AJ knows that yet. I thought it would be cool,” said Foyt.

One wall inside the Foyt Wine Vault shows a lighter side to the four time winner. Including a moment when AJ was attacked by a lion on his ranch.

“They were doing a photo shoot and he got tackled, but no damage was done,” said Foyt.

The car AJ Foyt drove the final lap of his career is prominently on display.

Foyt Wine Vault is certain to be a popular spot during the month of May. This year will be no different as the Indy 500 celebrates its 100th running.

“Everybody’s excited for the 100th it’s going to be a big race and big month of May,” Foyt said.

The Foyt Wine Vault was formerly a bank and the actual vault is still inside.
