Beer and Winemaking Among Top Dream Jobs

Mar 17, 2016

(TDB) - Winemakers and brewers should count their blessings, as their jobs are among the top dream careers that people would most like to do, a new study has revealed.

Nearly one in ten people dreams of brewing beer or making wine as their job – the eighth most popular ideal career – according to a new survey.

As many as 9% of the 2,000 British people interviewed for the study said that making their favourite tipple for a living would be an ideal career.

Beer brewing and winemaking was a more popular dream career than pottery and farming, which were ninth and tenth in the list respectively.

Ilustrator/artist, Landscape gardener, Jewellery designer, Chef/baker, Interior designer, Musician and Photography made up the top seven dream “craft” jobs, the survey commissioned by The Balvenie whisky reveals.

When asked for their main reasons for taking up a craft, 62% of respondents claimed that they find it therapeutic.

More than half (52%) said they love learning everything there is to know about a new skill, and a further 43% simply thrive on the thrill of creating something new.

The idea of re-training in a new field was so appealing that over a third (35%) of people said they would consider quitting their job to re-train in their chosen profession – regardless of money.

Security guards (95%), IT consultants (91%) and accountants (87%) were by far the most eager to pack in the typical 9-to-5 and take up a craft career.

The study was commissioned to launch The Craftsmen’s Dinner short film series for The Balvenie Scotch brand, the first of which went live online this week.
