Premier Cru: FBI handling Berkeley wine shop complaints

(MercuryNews) - The FBI is now fielding criminal complaints against a high end Berkeley wine business irate customers have accused of running a Ponzi scheme.

The Alameda County District Attorney's office had previously been accepting fraud complaints against Premier Cru, but on Friday, spokeswoman Teresa Drenick said the Feds have taken over.

"It is now the FBI that is accepting complaints regarding this matter," she said.

Drenick said complaints should be directed to the Oakland FBI duty agent at 510-808-2600.

FBI spokeswoman Michele Ernst confirmed that they are accepting complaints.

"The FBI's aware of this matter, but can't make any further comment, she said.

Premier Cru filed for bankruptcy last week, claiming $70 million in debt and only $7 million in assets. Most of the debt is to between 5,000 and 10,000 creditors, the bulk being customers claiming they are owed wine or refunds.
