Calistoga Wine Growers announces new president
Dec 23, 2015
(NVR) - Calistoga Wine Growers Association announced a new president and updated website at its recent member meeting and holiday party.
Carolyn Czapleski of Canard Vineyards, the current president of the board of directors announced that Tom Eddy, owner and winemaker for his own label, Tom Eddy Wines, will be the new president after Jan. 1.
Larry Arnoff of Jack Brooks Vineyard is now vice president, Barr Smith of Barlow Vineyards is secretary, and George Blanckensee of Chateau Montelena is treasurer. Czapleski remains on the board along with Nick Bleecher of Jericho Canyon Vineyard, Seth Gersch of Hindsight, Tom Kenefick of Kenefick Ranch, Shane Pavitt of Phifer Pavitt Wine, and Laura Swanton of Laura Michael Wines.
The nonprofit association also announced the launch of its updated website CalistogaWineGrowers.com developed by Colleen LeMasters.
The site includes a list of all members with information about individual wineries, their wines and how to purchase them, and how to visit the winery or tasting rooms. There is also a history of the Calistoga AVA, which went into effect in 2010, and description of the unique soil and climate conditions of Calistoga.
CWG released its new logo, created by member Tom Thornton, owner of The GRADE Cellars, earlier this year and are now selling logoed T-shirts, hats and pins, which are available for purchase at the Visitors Center, 1133 Washington St. Czapleski presented all three items to Chris Canning, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, which runs the Visitors Center, for his support and collaboration with the group.
Thornton used various historic and cultural elements to create the logo, which include using an image of the sign at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue that points to downtown that says “Calistoga” with a red arrow beneath it. The sign overlays a wine bottle, and both are encircled in green with the words Wine Growers in an all-caps font similar to what you would see on tare weight posts or wine bins.
Last year CWG donated its first Auction Napa Valley Lot of an intensive get-to-know Calistoga 10-day visit. The visit was designed to end on the day of Harvest Table, which was held, but not in the center of Lincoln Avenue as planned because of the Valley Fire. Attendees of the event enjoyed meals and wine inside individual restaurants.
