(Decanter) - Would-be winemakers are being offered the chance to learn the secrets of the craft from six producers in Bordeaux in a competition run by the region’s Wine Council (CIVB).

UK wine lovers can find out what’s like to be a Bordeaux winemaker via the social media competition, the CIVB said this week.

Participating winemakers include Basile Tesseron of Château Lafon-Rochet in St-Estèphe and producers from Sauternes, St-Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye and Entre-Deux-Mers.

The move is part of marketing efforts to make Bordeaux wine more accessible to wine lovers. It also follows separate work already started by Viniv, which allows wine lovers to come to Bordeaux or London and blend their own wines from specific vineyards.

To take part in the competition, Experience Life as a Bordeaux Winemaker, people are invited to visit its website and look through the profiles of the six winemakers, deciding who they would like to shadow.

They then complete a short questionnaire outlining their interests, why they should be chosen and what they would like to learn from the winemakers.

Submissions can then be shared on social media, calling for support and votes from friends and followers, after which four winners will be chosen based on the number of votes received, with two more selected by a CIVB jury based on the quality of their entries.
