Wine in a can for men is the latest unnecessarily gendered item

Nov 23, 2015

(Stuff) - Have you ever wanted a glass of wine, but feared it might be too ladylike?

Well now the solution that no one needed is here.

Mancan Wine is made in California and comes in three varieties - red, white, and sparkling. Its slogan is "Shut up and drink", which doesn't strike us as the healthiest attitude to alcohol but then, as women, we're not their target market.

"Thought up by a guy who lives in an old firehouse, walks to work with his dog, has two bikes and a trike, and wanted to move beyond stemware," the product copy reads.

Yes, drinking from a glass is a real hassle, we quite agree.

"At Mancan we believe wine is for drinking, not pouring, and our 'notes' are more rock than classical.

"Crush one at the game, throw one in your back pocket on a camping trip, or pop one open at your favourite dive bar. Just do us a favour and don't talk about the 'aroma'."

Our heads are spinning from how hard this product is working to seem authentic. At US$77 for 24 cans, they need to be doing a hard sell.

We're not bartenders (bar enthusiasts, definitely) but our advice to men wanting to seem manly while drinking would be twofold: calm down, and drink whatever you want.

If you're buying into traditional masculinity, what could be manlier than confidence? Have an appletini if that's what you want.
