Kurniawan’s cars sold at auction
Nov 2, 2015
(TDB) - A trio of cars belonging to convicted wine fraudster Rudy Kurniawan, including a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago roadster, have gone under the hammer in the US.
As reported by Wine-Searcher.com, the cars were auctioned off in Rancho Cucamonga, California last Thursday. With just 938 miles on the clock, the black Lamborghini Murcielago, thought to be worth $300,000, sold for just $195,000.
The fraudster’s 2011 Mercedes Benz G-Class SUV with 866 miles on the clock sold for $85,000, while 2008 Land Rover Range Rover fetched $30,000.
Those bidding on the cars, sold via Apple Auctioneering, weren’t allowed to take them for test drives but they were permitted to check the tires and the fluids. All three cars hadn’t been driven by Kurniawan since his arrest in LA in March 2012.
Kurniawan is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for defrauding wine collectors of millions of dollars via the sale of counterfeit wines. The net proceeds from the car auction will be put towards paying back Kurniawan’s victims.
