Group fighting for tighter regulation of Napa wine industry

(WWMT) - There's a war in wine country.

"Napa is a popular wine destination for good reason, but it has become an adult Disneyland," said Diane Shepp.

Napa County, California residents say the sprawling development of the wine industry is affecting their way of life.

So a new group is fighting for tougher regulation of the wine industry, including cutting back on special events, curbing hours of operation and a return to the focus of winemaking over marketing.

Experts say these new restrictions could cut back on tourism, which makes up a significant part of the winery business

"If we just sort of say we're done it's like what Woody Allen said about sharks - if you stop still, you're dead," said winery owner David Graves.

The planning department is expected to present their recommendations to the county on November 10th.
