(PD) - Firefighters brought the Valley fire to 87 percent containment and planned to lift mandatory evacuation orders for Anderson Springs, the community west of Middletown that was partly destroyed by the blaze, Cal Fire said Thursday.

Also, the evacuation center at the Napa County Fairgrounds was expected to be closed no later than noon Thursday, the agency said.

The information came in the latest update to the massive wildfire, which has consumed more than 76,000 acres in Lake, Sonoma and Napa counties and is considered among the top three the most destructive fires in state history.

More than 2,800 firefighters remain on the scene, trying to fully encircle the blaze that started Sept. 12 and caused at least four deaths. A total of 1,910 structures were destroyed.

Cal Fire said a focus now is restoring natural landscape that was altered during initial firefighting efforts.

The evacuation order for Anderson Springs would be lifted at 5 p.m., Cal Fire said.

Certain roads in the area remain closed, including parts of Bottle Rock Road and Highway 175.
