Napa County supervisors want to get a handle on winery code compliance
Apr 27, 2017
(NVR) - Napa County supervisors want to get a handle on the winery code compliance situation, though it’s unclear what their next step might be.
The topic came up at Monday’s Board of Supervisors county retreat. The five supervisors elected from different districts in the county sat around a table and informally discussed what was on their minds, including code enforcement.
Supervisor Brad Wagenknecht mentioned the ideal of having all wineries comply with their use permits. Then every use permit application to the county from existing wineries would be about expansions and other new requests, not about cleaning up infractions.
“If there is a big glob of non-compliant (wineries), it would be nice to get that done … That’s part of the problem, we’re not sure how big or how little is,” Wagenknecht said. “Is it 1 percent? Is it 20 percent?”
The county Planning Commission in recent months has heard from several wineries seeking after-the-fact approvals. Violations ranged from entertaining too many visitors to adding buildings and tasting areas without permits.
