The English Wine Consultancy (EWC)

The EWC launched in 2016 to work with prospective and established English wine producers offering project management services and support with business planning, vineyard establishment, winery design & construction, wine making and operational management. Our staff and partners are highly qualified with years of experience working as trusted experts in England and Internationally. As project managers, consultants, viticulturalists, wine makers and researchers we combine to bring our expertise and passion to help clients achieve high-quality vineyards, outstanding wine and sustainable English wine businesses.

Aware of both the opportunities and risks within wine production we offer clients an enthusiastic but considered approach, and tailor-make support to their needs, delivered through a friendly first-class service.

Position summary

This is a privileged multi-faceted role for the right person to significantly contribute to the strategic positioning and growth of EWC, and to deliver seamless high-quality client services. The post holder will report directly to the Managing Director and will have responsibility for:

1. Business development:
a. Designing and implementing a strategic business development plan.
b. Delivering new business products to fit with customer needs.
c. Securing new clients and customer networks against agreed quarterly targets, to obtain optimal business outcomes and ensure a strong new business pipeline.

2. Marketing:
a. Developing a strong business profile across the sector.
b. Designing and delivering a company marketing strategy.
c. Consistently representing EWC and associated businesses and products at promotional opportunities.
d. Actively managing EWC and associated company websites, and all social media outlets.
e. Ensuring client awareness of all EWC and associated business services.
f. Effectively manage all media enquiries in accordance with EWC policies.

The Marketing & Business Development Manager will also work closely with other EWC staff to create and implement work systems and quality assurance processes.

As and when reasonably requested the post holder will be required to provide flexibility and the ability to work overtime, and to undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties from time-to-time.

Business requirements

The candidate will be joining a young dynamic enterprise with staff internationally recognised for their outstanding contribution to viticulture, wine making and wine business. Staff, partners and associates are commercially viable on their own and the successful candidate will also be expected to grow the influence and profitability of the business. The post-holder should also expect their role to expand as the business develops.

Person specification

This role has strategic, management and hands-on requirements and therefore demands a high degree of flexibility, motivation, professionalism and dedication. The role is designed for a person who truly wants to add value and understands the importance of credibility, reliability and high-end service provision with the drive to generate continuous business and service improvements.

We are seeking an energetic and passionate candidate who demonstrates experience in business development, ideally within the wine or viticulture sector, and has strong planning, communication and interpersonal skills. They will be a hard-working formidable team player wanting to bring innovation and actively contribute to the opportunities that await.

Experience and training

• Educated to degree level, desirably in viticulture, wine science, or wine business.
• At least 5-years’ experience in business development and/or marketing roles.
• A strong knowledge of the English wine production sector.
• Outstanding communication skills including high levels of IT, social media and marketing acumen.

Business location

The post-holder will be required to work remotely for the first 12 months with c30% travel to events, wine producers, and EWC staff meetings. This will be assessed at the end of the 12-month period.
