Smith Family Announces New Company Name: Smith Family Wines

Producer of Alexander-Smith, Paraiso Vineyards and Irie Wines, Largest Wine Grape Grower in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Introduces Corporate Identity and Website

Soledad, CA (February 2, 2016) - Today Jason and Jennifer Smith, the next generation of the vertically-integrated group of viticulture and wine companies, including award-winning wine brands Alexander-Smith, Paraiso Vineyards and Irie, announced a new corporate structure and identity. The new company name-Smith Family Wines-provides a corporate umbrella brand that encompasses the family's entire portfolio of complementary farming, harvesting, wine making and wine sales businesses.

The new website at www.smithfamilywines.com tells the story of an entrepreneurial, multi-generational family business with a passion for Monterey County and a generous community spirit. The site also provides details on the Smith Family Wines vineyards, wines, winemaker, wine club, two tasting rooms (one in the Santa Lucia Highlands and one in Carmel-by-the-Sea) and popular wine dogs, Aero, Bleecker and Irie. Web visitors can also purchase wines in the online store, learn about sustainability in the vineyards and explore the tasting rooms virtually.

The Smith Family Wines name and umbrella entity are part of a larger, ongoing strategic initiative that President and CEO, Jason Smith, began more than a year ago to position the businesses for additional growth and clarify the relationship between the brands.

"My father started the first of our businesses-Valley Farm Management, a wine grape farming company-in 1973," said Jason Smith. "He expanded and launched more businesses in harvesting, wine making and wine sales as he identified new opportunities and market needs, including creating our first wine label, Paraiso Vineyards, named for our SIP-Certified home estate vineyard in the SLH."

Creative Director, Jennifer Smith, explained, "In addition to Paraiso Vineyards being our super-premium wine brand, we had also been doing business as Paraiso Vineyards for our wine making operations, wine sales business, and home estate vineyard tasting room. When we introduced our luxury wine brand Alexander-Smith and tasting room in Carmel last year, then incorporated our son Justin's Irie wines into our line of brands, it became obvious we needed a different way to explain our brands and tell our family business story-we had outgrown the hierarchy that had sprouted up organically over 43 years and it was time for a more cohesive brand identity structure."

With the new name and brand hierarchy in place, Smith Family Wines will be focusing on promoting both the new name and their popular wines.

Smith Family Wines is the largest grape grower in the Santa Lucia Highlands with more than 820 acres in the SLH. They additionally grow and harvest on 2,500 acres throughout other AVAs in Monterey County.
